Apo C-III restrains parts of lipid clearance
Heart Health
Apolipoprotein C-III is the brake on fat clearance. It slows the enzyme that empties triglyceride-rich particles and stops the liver taking up their remnants.

Apo C-III restrains parts of lipid clearance
People born with gene variants that switch off ApoC-III have low triglycerides and about 40% less coronary heart disease, which has made it a major target for new medicines.
Low levels are favourable and go with efficient clearance of triglycerides.
A high ApoC-III keeps triglyceride-rich particles in the blood for longer and is linked with high triglycerides, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes and cardiovascular risk.
Weight loss, exercise and cutting sugar and alcohol lower ApoC-III along with triglycerides. Medicines that silence ApoC-III are now used for some people with very high triglycerides.
