Antibodies recognise thyroglobulin
Like anti-TPO, they indicate autoimmune thyroid disease, and the two are often found together; checking both picks up more cases.
Negative is the normal result.
Positive antibodies suggest Hashimoto's thyroiditis or, less often, Graves' disease, and a higher chance of thyroid problems in the future.
Positive antibodies on their own are monitored rather than treated, and treatment starts only if thyroid hormone levels change.
